JENSEN HUGHES provides a variety of water quality consulting services, including a particular focus on spill prevention and control and management of firefighting foams.
We prepare Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plans for fuel processing and storage facilities and recommend engineering design modifications to improve spill control and emergency response capabilities.
We provide wastewater containment and remediation plans for known environmental contaminants. For example, over the last several decades we have addressed the environmental impacts of training with, the use of, and the disposal of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) on U.S. military bases. AFFF is a water-based solution used to suppress and extinguish Class B fires (i.e., liquid fuel fires) for a range of applications including ships, shore-based facilities, aircraft hangers, and manual firefighting. In particular, JENSEN HUGHES has been and continues to be involved in the system design, containment and remediation of AFFF as well as the evaluation of legacy AFFFs.
As industry has shifted away from foams containing perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and related perfluoroalkyl sulfonates, JENSEN HUGHES has developed guidance for new and enhanced response as well as clean-up criteria to protect personnel and assets from exposure to firefighting chemicals and processes.
