2018 Abilities Expo in Toronto

For nearly 4o years, the Abilities Expo has been a source for people with disabilities, their families, seniors, veterans, and healthcare professionals. The event showcases new technologies, possibilities, solutions, and opportunities for change. The expo includes accessibility products, related services, adaptive sports, and informative workshops.
Accessibility Presentation at Abilities Expo: Advancing Accessible Design
On Friday, January 19, from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Samantha Proulx, C.E.T., is scheduled to present, “Advancing Accessible Design.” This session will shed light on the advancement of accessible design in Ontario and among other provinces in Canada. The presentation will discuss the upcoming release of the proposed Canadians with Disabilities Act, and what that document may entail with regards to the built environment. There will also be a focus on the Accessibility for Ontarian with Disabilities Act (AODA), and how it relates back to the Ontario Building Code (OBC). The session will touch upon some of the major barrier-free design requirements currently outlines in the 2012 OBC, the intent of such design requirements, and how to remove barriers from the built environment.
