Jeff Marksthaler is a Senior Metallurgical and Materials Engineer specializing in failure analysis of engineered materials. Mr. Marksthaler specializes in laboratory and field investigation of a broad range of materials and is able to leverage his hands-on experience in manufacturing and fabrication methods. His work content includes characterization, fractography, metallography, fracture mechanics, electron microscopy, root cause, and problem solving. He analyzes metals, ceramics and other materials including the examination of arcing on aluminum and copper conductors, various electrical contacts, and product failure analysis to help determine root cause of fires. Other failure analyses include loading, fatigue, strain, plastic deformation, fracture, corrosion, wear, and impact. His experience includes: manufacturing process control for plate, pipe, tube, fittings, fasteners, bar, concrete-reinforcing bar, forgings, foundry castings, components, joints and weldments. He is experienced in multiple methods of manufacturing and fabrication including: steelmaking, casting, rolling, forging, machining, welding, grinding, cold forming, non-destructive testing, sampling methods, test methods, calibration, sectioning and preparation, composition, hardness, tensile, charpy impact, creep/stress rupture, microstructure, and NACE HIC and SSC testing.
