Nicolaus Faino, PE, MS, CFEI, is a Senior Mechanical Engineer who investigates incidents ranging from personal injuries to water losses and fires; and specializes in product failure analysis, load and stress testing, design analysis, and laboratory and field analysis of materials and mechanical systems. Mr. Faino provides technical analysis, litigation support, and expert testimony to law firms, insurance companies, and industry.

Mr. Faino's personal injury casework to date has included the evaluation of automatic doors, material handling equipment, and chair failures, among others. He also has extensive experience in the investigation of water losses and specializes in residential and commercial plumbing, piping, and appliance failures related to water loss damage and construction defects. In addition, he is experienced with compressed gas delivery piping, machinery components, and other mechanical systems, including fire investigations related to vehicles, machinery, and equipment.


Mr.Faino is also experienced in applying 3D scanning techniques for scene preservation, computational stress modeling, and dimensional analysis. He is an operator of the FARO 3D laser scanner and Matterport 3D camera and uses these technologies to capture valuable measurement data for use both in finite element analysis, and generating visual aids for legal proceedings.


He holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and has previous experience with the installation of gas and water piping, as well as the design and fabrication of mechanical components.


Prior work experience includes design and operation of high-temperature systems, ceramic material processing, CFD and FEA modeling, safety protocols, and the design, fabrication, operation, and analysis of instrumented test systems. His research and development background includes renewable energy applications, advanced aerospace energy system development, hydrogen, and oxygen system design, alternative energy systems research, and ceramics processing for fuel cell applications.
