Case Study

NYC Health + Hospitals is the largest public healthcare system in the United States. Through an integrated system of hospitals, neighborhood healthcare centers, long-term care facilities, nursing homes and home care, the organization provides care to more than one million New Yorkers every year. In 2020, NYC Health + Hospitals required a firm to perform professional life safety consulting services on an as-needed basis for 16 facilities throughout New York City’s five boroughs. The consulting services contract spans three years, from February 2020- February 2023.

The Solution

We assembled a team of Jensen Hughes life safety experts from seven JH offices across the northeast region to Chicago to develop a cost-efficient and expertise driven solution that would meet the accelerated timeline of the contract. To streamline our life safety surveys, our consultants and Software Solutions group developed a Healthcare Life Safety Bluebeam Tool to mark up the life safety drawings for each facility in relation to on-site deficiencies and respective life safety codes and standards. This process ultimately helped us to stay on track by reducing the amount of time spent developing the deliverables for the project. The team also created the new Healthcare Life Safety User Guide and AutoCAD Standard to produce compliant and standardized healthcare life safety drawings.

The Results

Throughout the first two years of the contract, our team developed and fine-tuned a process that effectively assisted our client with each portion of the required scope, while more efficiently utilizing our time both on-site and off-site developing drawings and reports. We have maintained constant contact with individual representatives from each of NYC Health + Hospital’s 16 facilities to promote collaboration and to combat an everchanging healthcare environment throughout the pandemic.
