Gareth is a Senior Investigator with experience in fire investigations in many different settings. Throughout his career, he has investigated over 700 fires in Australia, the Pacific and Southeast Asia. These have included numerous fatal fires, a bus crash and subsequent fire with over 10 fatalities in Fiji and multiple fires with related fatalities caused by rioting in Tonga. Gareth has been part of investigation teams following large bombings in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. He has investigated ship fires and explosions for numerous marine clients in Europe, South-East Asia, the Middle East, and the USA. These have included engine room fires, container fires and explosions, and bulk cargo fires and explosions. He has completed the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy Maritime Fire Safety course.
Gareth has presented expert evidence in Court in Australia and the UK on many occasions, including for murder trials, Coroner’s Court matters into fatal fires, criminal arson trials and civil matters.
He has attended many fire conferences and received training from the ATF and FBI in Fire Investigation in the USA. He has also completed specialised advanced courses in Fire Investigation and Post Blast Investigation, as well as numerous other specialised forensic courses including disaster victim identification, forensic incident management, forensic photography, blood-spatter investigation, fingerprints, DNA and ballistic examinations.
Gareth has obtained his Certified Fire Investigator professional accreditation through the International Association of Arson Investigators and has obtained the Legal Experience Training Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence (LETAPAEWE) qualification. He also obtained his Certified International Post-Blast Investigator (CIPBI) designation through the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI).
