With more people living longer and cognitive and cultural issues increasing across the population, the need for universal design is growing. Universal design considers people's diverse needs and abilities throughout the design process, facilitating the creation of environments, services and systems that benefit everyone.
Design challenges span multiple facets of the built environment, from transportation, educational campuses, and health care sites to commercial, hospitality, and entertainment venues. Accommodating the diverse needs of all means going beyond the minimum code-enforced requirements to develop innovative layouts and designs that empower individuals at home and in public spaces.
