Dan has over 50 years of experience in fire protection and safety. He was Chief Technical Officer for Jensen Hughes for several years, during which time he provided technical leadership and expertise to staff on a company-wide basis in the areas of fire modeling, human behavior, and new fire protection technologies and research-related projects. His experience as a consulting fire engineer includes convention centers, historic buildings, stadiums, hospitals and several 100-plus story super tall buildings. Dan has authored six Fire Protection Research Foundation projects in the areas of fire detection and fire suppression and is a recipient of the Research Foundation’s Ronald K. Mengel Award. He currently serves as a Member of the NFPA Standards Council and is the Chair of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers’ Task Group on Human Behavior, and is currently the Chairman of the NFPA 72 Fire Alarm Code Committee on Initiating devices. He has served on six other NFPA Technical Committees, including NFPA 101, 72, and 13. He is the past Co-Chair of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitats (CTBUH) Fire Safety Working Group. In 2004, Dan was elected to the grade of Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Dan is also the author of numerous professional publications on fire safety.
