The Cutaway

The Cutaway is a cultural and event venue located beneath Barangaroo Reserve on Sydney Harbour, funded by the NSW Government. Designed as a flexible space for exhibitions, festivals, performances and community events, the venue combines distinctive architecture with contemporary event facilities.

The project reflects a strong connection to Salt Water Country, with the fitout informed by a First Nations engagement, Connection with Country principles to support learning, storytelling and connection to place.

The venue has been designed with ambitious sustainability objectives, including a target 6 Star Green Star Buildings (As Built) rating. It operates on renewable energy and incorporates innovative infrastructure, including harbour heat rejection and shared services with the Barangaroo Metro station.

Jensen Hughes worked closely with the design and construction teams throughout the fitout, providing accessibility consulting services. From design through to construction sign-off, our team provided advice on compliance with relevant Australian accessibility standards, supporting accessible layouts, circulation routes and amenities across the venue.

The completed fitout includes accessible facilities and event spaces designed to accommodate a wide range of visitors and event types. Accessibility considerations were integrated throughout the project to support an inclusive experience for performers, exhibitors, event organisers and visitors.
