Roger Glick is a resilience, emergency management, and crisis leadership consultant who helps organizations prepare for—and perform through—complex, high-consequence disruption. With more than 20 years of experience spanning healthcare operations, emergency management, consulting, research, and executive leadership, his work focuses on strengthening the systems, decisions, and organizational capabilities that determine how effectively an organization withstands disruption and adapts to change.

Roger brings a systems-thinking and engineering-oriented approach to resilience. Rather than viewing risks, plans, departments, and facilities in isolation, he examines how people, processes, infrastructure, information, technology, leadership, and external dependencies interact as a system. His work emphasizes understanding consequences, identifying critical points of failure and interdependency, testing assumptions, and developing practical interventions that improve organizational performance under stress.

Healthcare is a primary focus of Roger’s work. He has advised organizations ranging from rural Critical Access Hospitals to large academic medical centers, health systems, healthcare coalitions, associations, and public health agencies. His experience includes enterprise emergency management, operational resilience, business continuity, crisis leadership and decision-making, patient evacuation, mass-casualty preparedness, cyber disruption, healthcare surge, program assessment, exercises, and the design and improvement of emergency management systems. His broader work also extends to government, higher education, and other organizations operating in complex or high-consequence environments.

Roger is particularly interested in moving organizations beyond compliance-based preparedness toward evidence-informed resilience. He integrates operational experience with research, data, systems science, and emerging practices to help leaders better understand risk and make consequential decisions under conditions of uncertainty. As both a producer and consumer of research, he seeks to translate scientific evidence and complex concepts into practical strategies that executives and operational leaders can use.

Roger is a faculty member at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, with appointments in Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine, and has authored or contributed to peer-reviewed research, professional publications, and invited presentations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Certified Emergency Manager through the International Association of Emergency Managers. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the National Pediatric Disaster Coalition.
