Select Language

Dr. Ankit Sharma, PhD, is a Lead Research Consultant at Jensen Hughes, USA, specializing in fire science, fire safety engineering, and emerging hazards. His work spans research, large-scale and custom fire testing, code consulting, and computational modeling, with applications across battery energy storage systems, lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen, the built environment, wildfires, climate change and microgravity environments.

His current work focuses on BESS and lithium-ion battery fire safety, battery testing and modeling, hazard mitigation analysis, fire risk assessment, plume dispersion and explosion modeling, incident investigation support, and principal investigator roles on federally funded research projects. He combines experimental data, advanced modeling, and code-based engineering to develop practical safety solutions for complex fire and explosion hazards.

Dr. Sharma earned his PhD from IIT Roorkee, India, and has previously contributed to projects at NIST, Johns Hopkins University, Case Western Reserve University on a NASA-sponsored project, and Arup. He is a 2023 SFPE “5 Under 35” Awardee and a 2022 SFPE Foundation GCI Climate Change Fellow, and he holds multiple granted patents and peer-reviewed scientific publications.

He is actively involved in the global fire protection community, serving on NASA and NSF grant review panels, contributing to technical committees with UL, ICC, and others, co-chairing the SFPE Foundation’s Energy and Infrastructure Working Group, and serving as co-subgroup leader for Emergency Management and Evacuation under the IAFSS LOF&BE Working Group.
