Corso Italia 23
Project Profile
Corso Italia 23, born after the second world war, was redeveloped between 2019-2024 into a modern office campus with open spaces and a central garden courtyard.
Jensen Hughes provided code consulting and fire engineering services to support the delivery of the safe and efficient redevelopment. Our scope included code consultancy and performance-based design, fire and suppression systems design, and fire risk assessment.
The complexity of the building proved challenging, the architectural constraints particularly demanding. However, Jensen Hughes was able to deliver the most efficient and compliant solution possible.
A key example of this was the smoke management strategy.
As it was not possible to define an appropriate mechanical smoke management system in a prescriptive manner based on the applicable regulations, our team of experts carried out advanced smoke management simulations aimed at assessing both the potential spread of smoke and hot gases within the building and at verifying compliance with the minimum performance criteria defined during the preliminary design stages in relation to fire safety engineering.
This performance-based approach enabled our engineers to optimize the fire strategy, resulting in a reduction in the extent and complexity of the required mechanical smoke control systems. Consequently, the client was able to achieve full standard compliance with a more efficient design and significant cost savings.
