Enigma Square, a Build-to-Rent (BTR) residential scheme by Grainger plc in Milton Keynes, offers a vibrant community experience. The development comprises two blocks totaling 261 purpose-designed rental homes, strategically located on North Row, just ten minutes from Milton Keynes Central Station. Artwork by Michael Murray, inspired by the Enigma code-breaking history, adds a unique touch to the development.

Drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape, urban planning, and the legacy of Alan Turing, 74 interior design practice, incorporated nature-inspired palettes, timbers, and curved forms. This development alleviates the housing crisis and adds green space in the concrete jungle.

Jensen Hughes developed the fire strategy for the entire project, actively participating throughout the design and construction phases. Our expertise in fire engineering played a crucial role in the design process, introducing innovative solutions to address challenges such as stair connections between residential units and the car park, as well as extended travel distances in common corridors.

Our team conducted computational fluid dynamic smoke modeling and evacuation modeling for the residential corridors and car parks. Additionally, radiation assessments were carried out to support the optimal placement of cooking hobs. This comprehensive approach highlights Jensen Hughes' commitment to ensuring a safe and well-designed living environment for the residents of Enigma Square. It was great getting involved in the project that pays homage to Milton Keynes' grid system and the historical significance of Bletchley Park, which is known for breaking the German Enigma code during World War II.
