Department of Energy Expertise + Services
Jensen Hughes provides a full spectrum of fire protection and safety services tailored to DOE's unique operational requirements.
Department of Energy Experience
Jensen Hughes is a trusted partner to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and other government agencies, delivering specialized fire protection, safety, and risk management solutions across some of the nation's most complex and mission-critical facilities. With more than 40 years of DOE experience and over eight decades of global leadership in fire protection engineering, our experts support nuclear security operations, radiological waste processing, decommissioning and demolition projects, national laboratories, and renewable energy facilities.
DoE Order 420.1C Compliance and Program Assessments
Jensen Hughes provides DOE Order 420.1C compliance assessments and fire protection program evaluations for nonreactor nuclear safety design and nuclear reactor design at DOE facilities. Our services include triennial assessments, compliance evaluations and matrices aligned with DOE Guide 420.1-1 in conjunction with DOE Order 420.1C, along with findings, recommendations and ongoing program support. We also perform baseline needs, operational readiness and inspection, testing and maintenance evaluations.
Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA)
Jensen Hughes provides comprehensive Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA) services for DOE facilities, supporting compliance with DOE Order 420.1C and related standards. Our FHAs assess fire and explosion hazards, protection features and control measures for existing facilities and new construction. Our expertise addresses complex hazards involving nuclear materials, explosives, hazardous chemicals and specialized research operations.
Fire Protection System Design and Engineering
Jensen Hughes provides fire protection system design and engineering for DOE nuclear and nonnuclear installations. Our expertise includes fire suppression, fire alarm, detection and emergency notification systems, with experience supporting safety-significant SSCs and stringent DOE and ASME NQA-1 requirements. We provide hydraulic calculations, seismic analysis, system specifications, construction bid packages and compliance matrices aligned with DOE Order 420.1C and DOE Guide 420.1-1.
Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and Risk-Informed Engineering
Jensen Hughes is a global leader in Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA), with more than 30 years of experience advancing PRA methodologies and applications. Our capabilities span fire, seismic, flooding and external hazards across all nuclear facility operating modes. We provide risk-informed engineering services including hazard PRAs, human reliability and severe accident analyses, as well as risk-informed applications and decision-making. Our team supports complex DOE facilities through gap assessments, trade-off studies and technology evaluations that strengthen safety and operational performance.
Trusted Across America's DOE Infrastructure
Jensen Hughes has nearly 40 years of experience, conducting hundreds of projects across the entire DOE complex.
