Moriel Kaplan, PE has over 17 years of experience in the fire protection engineering, building code consulting, property risk consulting and life safety systems design fields. Ms. Kaplan currently leads a business development team within Jensen Hughes to connect clients in the commercial office, hospitality, public venue, education and healthcare vertical markets with consultants able to solve the unique, complex risk-based problems that arise in the built environment. She also liaises between legal and insurance clients and Jensen Hughes' forensics experts to coordinate rapid response and investigative activities post-loss. Prior roles with Jensen Hughes include Vice President of Business Support; Director of the Greenbelt, MD Office; and various engineering consulting positions globally. Her specialties include high-rise mixed-use construction, complex retail facilities, U.S. government requirements and higher education dormitories. Technical services Ms. Kaplan provides include multi-discipline plan reviews; preparation of code variances/equivalencies; designs of safety-related systems; and construction period oversight including inspection, commissioning and final acceptance testing. Her strong project management skills coupled with her client and team-focused approach allows her to create consistency throughout the organization, develop integrated formal processes/procedures, streamline work effort and reduce costs all while emphasizing the importance of Advancing the Science of Safety. Ms. Kaplan serves as Chair of NFPA's committee on Structures, Construction, and Materials for the Building Construction and Safety Code (NFPA 5000) and she is also an ICC-Certified Building Plans Examiner.
