This installation was completed along with a recent relocation of the company’s state-of-the-art dust and flammability testing laboratory. Jensen Hughes’ Nova Scotia location is the only lab in Canada providing this type of flammability and dust explosion testing.
“We created this equipment to withstand operating conditions that are more representative of industrial conditions and more equipped to give accurate results,” said Martin Clouthier, MSc, PEng, VP + Global Service Line Leader, Industrial + Process Safety at Jensen Hughes. “In some cases the traditionally used, smaller 20-L test chamber, which was developed to replicate the one cubic metre chamber, can provide ‘false positives’. This could result in unnecessary costs for explosion protection. The one cubic metre chamber solves this issue.”
The explosion chamber is considered the “gold standard” for dust and flammability testing and Jensen Hughes is one of only three service providers in North America equipped with these capabilities. This, along with the Nova Scotia team’s ability to provide the quickest turnaround time in commercial dust testing, positions Jensen Hughes at the forefront of industrial and process safety testing and dust analysis.
