Statue of Liberty National Museum

The Statue of Liberty Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and legacy of a remarkable American treasure and monument. Unique collections and modern galleries provide an enhanced educational experience, inviting visitors to contemplate the meaning of the Statue, and explore its history in thought-provoking ways. Beautifully designed and universally accessible, the museum houses an extraordinary and engaging collection of American heirlooms, enhancing visits to the island with interactive exhibits that enable visitors to explore the Statue’s grandeur.

This project marked the first new building project to be undertaken by the Statue of Liberty Ellis Island Foundation, which has overseen the preservation of the Statue since the 1980’s. The new 26,000 SF facility replaced the previous building that was located at the base of the statue, designed to withstand hurricane force winds. The angular shape of the building mimics the waters edges, while the embedded green roof provides a unique experience and vantage point for visitors. The site also incorporates materials such as granite, bronze and a variety of native vegetation that connect the original statue’s elements with the natural elements of the island.

Our team provided fire, life safety and accessibility code consulting services for the design phases of the new museum. Services included code compliance plan reviews, written design analysis of proposed design options, and assistance with code interpretations.
