Dr. Anil Kapahi is the Director of the Research, Development, Testing, and Evaluation (RDT&E) group at Jensen Hughes, with two decades of experience in engineering consulting and academia. He has led multidisciplinary teams evaluating fire, explosion, and toxicity hazards across the defense, transportation, energy, and industrial sectors.
An author of more than 40 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Kapahi serves as a principal investigator for the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Navy (USN), advancing methods to quantify fire and explosion risks in large-scale battery systems, railcars and other mission-critical infrastructure. He currently supports multiple grid-scale battery energy storage clients with testing, modeling, and risk assessment services. A strong advocate for integrated solutions, Dr. Kapahi exploits the combined use of experimental testing and computational modeling to inform design and mitigation strategies.
Dr. Kapahi is an active technical member of the NFPA 855, NFPA 59A, NFPA 68 and NFPA 69 committees.
